My goal was to have no grass in my front yard and replace it with something that is low maintenance, hardy, drought resistant and looks nice.  Laureen is very professional and experienced in this field.  She asked questions about my preferences, listened, made suggestions and then completed an amazing and detailed design on paper.  I love the installed design, from the rock river to the type, variety and placement of the plants.  Laureen was great to work with throughout the whole process!

Me and gardening are two things that don’t go together. I wanted a nice yard but I had no clue how!

I was determined to have something other than a big lawn of grass with a thousand of  worms holes in it. For me, maintaining this yard made no sense. I was looking for no grass to cut, indigenous plants to grow, and a low-maintenance yard. 

Looking for guidance, I found Laureen. From the first meeting, I felt she understood my needs but mainly, she listened to all my concerns, she wasn’t afraid of the lack of indications from my side. Patiently, she asked me questions and made suggestions.

Laureen’s suggestions at our first meeting sounded great. I was excited! She came back with a yard plan, I told you, gardening and me, we don’t live at the same place! I was able to recognize just a few plants names, barely any images of them in my head. Laureen came very prepared and patiently, kindly, showed me pictures of each of them, answering my questions and adding information.

It has been an excellent move for me to use Laureen’s services. She is patient, calm, and very knowledgeable. We had the back yard done last year and this year, it is the front yard.  Thank you so much Laureen!

Six years ago when I wanted to redo my front lawn I was lucky enough to find Laureen Rama.  Her help was invaluable.  She listened to all my wishes and concerns.  We had recently experienced the flood of 2013 and we are very near an off leash area.  Her design incorporated elements to mitigate these factors.  By looking at my garden she included plants that I had chosen previously and the odd one I wasn’t too sure about but which have proven to be good choices.  Thanks to her design my garden is low maintenance and attractive, with different shrubs and perennials flowering throughout spring and summer.  Lauren gave us a practical, creative design which we enjoy daily.  She was knowledgeable, efficient, responsive, punctual and had a  pleasant manner.  I have no hesitation recommending her as a design consultant.

I wanted to take out the lawn on my front yard and replace it with a garden. I contacted Laureen Rama. She designed a delightful garden with Calgary-hardy plants that need little watering. Laureen chose a variety of plants and shrubs which ensure I have something blooming from early spring through late fall in a variety of colours.

My yard has a steep slope and the drainage caused quite a bit of ice to collect on the city sidewalk when the weather turned mild, and the snow melted (which is a common part of Calgary winters!). Laureen and her team dug a well to hold the water and created a lovely rock garden on top. The well not only diverts water from running into the street, but it also creates a reservoir for the elm tree in the front yard – an attractive and practical solution to the drainage problem.

Laureen clearly loves her work. She is creative, listens carefully, asks good questions, and has a light and pleasant touch with advice. Her knowledge of plant life is deep. Laureen and her team were a delight to work with.

My front yard is a thing of beauty that has healthy, thriving plants and shrubs – I am very happy with it. The flowers are wonderful. I often have people stopping to admire my lovely garden.

I worked with Laureen Rama over a few years to design an entertainment space and raised garden beds for food in our backyard, and a stunning, sustainable, water-wise front yard. She transformed my boring lawn into an interesting, creative and functional garden which beautifully displays native plants.

Laureen was able to get a sense of my personal style and delivered that back in her designs. She ran options by me, showing photos so I could get a sense of the possibilities. She was resourceful and well-connected, helping us get a grant to pay for our rain garden in the front. The rain garden served as a demonstration and research garden for a few years.

Our backyard flagstone patio with built-in firepit is beautiful and we entertain all season long there. The raised garden beds produce loads of vegetable and greens for us and are easy to work in.

The front yard provides a moving harmony of colour all year long. Bees, birds, butterflies are abundant. I love it and so does everyone in the neighbourhood. The rain garden regularly stops walkers: to gaze, to enjoy, and when I am outside, ask several questions and provide their appreciation for it.
